Jesse Sobbing (99) repels Zach Zeitner (76) at Boone Speedway.
What won the race: Keeping IMCA points leader Zach Zeitner and then charging upstart Cody Thompson at bay, fourth-starting Jesse Sobbing of Malvern, Iowa, led all but three laps Monday at Boone Speedway for a $3,000 victory in the Speedway Motors Super Nationals. Sobbing took the checkers 1.087 seconds ahead of Zeitner with Thompson, who briefly went ahead of Sobbing with eight laps remaining a Sobbing crossover, in third.
Quotable: "I kept seeing 'em on the bottom and I was trying to not overshoot the top," Sobbing said. "Hell, you can't be a cowboy if you don't do cowboy (stuff) right? This race, the nostalgia of this race, winning this race, it means a lot. I don't know if they would have spun me around, I probably would have tried the same damn thing to try to win it, too."
Key notes: Jesse Sobbing won in a former Karl Getzschman car recently purchased by Shane Hoeft. ... Polesitter Zach Zeitner led the first lap and fell back to third much of the race, regaining the second spot on the final lap. ... Outside front-row starter Jesse Bodin laps 2-3 with Sobbing taking command on the fourth lap. ... His motor was giving up in the final laps. ... Five cautions slowed the 50-lapper, the first on the opening lap for Aidan Mohr's spin. ... On the eighth lap, the second-running Bodin spun exiting turn two after his left-rear tire popped off the bead; he retired. ... On the lap-eight restart, Darrel DeFrance went around in turn four before the green fell. ... Alex Banks spun exiting turn two on the 18th lap behind a slowing Drew Baker. ... The final yellow came out on lap-27 for J.J. Rodeman's turn-three spin. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Curtis Glover, Clay Simpson and Landen Rojewski.
On the move: Cody Thompson of Sioux City, Iowa, started 14th and finished third.
