Cole Schill heads for victory lane after his $9,200 victory.
What won the race: Inheriting control when A.J. Diemel retired on lap 46, third-starting Cole Schill of Hawley, Minn., was moved back into the lead after contact with Tyler Peterson sent him spinning on lap 90, then survived the late restart to win Saturday's 19th annual John Seitz Memorial at River Cities Speedway. Schill beat 19th-starting Jesse Glenz to the line by 1.556 seconds for the $9,200 payday, the most lucrative victory of his career and second feature win this season.
Quotable: “This is the goal every year, to come to this race and try to put on a show, try to win,” Schill said. “We definitely were airborne a little bit (following contact with Tyler Peterson), I’m just glad she didn’t hook when we went up and over (the turn-one banking). I was definitely using up the track, I ain’t gonna lie, I was trying to do as much as I could to keep the fenders wide and sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. I hate that we got together, I don’t like running dirty at all, I just didn’t know that he was coming with kind of a head of steam.”
Key notes: Schill led four times for 36 laps (8, 46-68, 70-75, 87-92) in winning his first special event since Aug. 28, 2022, a Northern LateModel Racing Association stop at Buffalo River Speedway in Glyndon, Minn. ... His other 2025 victory came July 13 at Buffalo River in local Late Model action. ... Track champ Dustin Strand restarted second on lap 90 only to drift high and leave the racing surface in turn two, allowing Schill to pull away in the final laps; Strand was credited with 12th. ... Jesse Glenz passed Zach Johnson for second on the final lap, relegating Johnson to third. ... Apparent fourth-place finisher Mike Greseth was disqualified in postrace technical inspection and moved to 27th in the final rundown. ... Shane Edginton was lifted to fourth after rebounding from lap-19 contact with Brody Troftgruben. ... Second-starting Chad Becker led twice for 33 laps (1-7, 9-34) before slipping to seventh. ... Jason Strand and Tucker Pederson each improved 16 spots to finish eighth and ninth. ... Troy Schill finished 10th, the final starter to complete 92 laps. ... Jeff Provinzino was credited with 17th after slowing from 10th with heavy nose damage on lap 68. ... A.J. Diemel led once for 11 laps (35-45) before retiring under green on the 46th lap, handing control back to Cole Schill. ... There were eight lead changes among Becker, Diemel, Schill and Peterson. … The event honored John Seitz, the four-time NLRA champ who died of apparent natural causes while on a snowmobile trip in 2007, at the age of 36. ... The race lasted nearly 70 minutes with 12 starters running at the checkers. ... Peterson won the modified portion of the Seitz Memorial later in the evening. ...
