Scott Crigler celebrates his third straight ULRA Series win at Monett.
What won the race: Scott Crigler of Alton, Mo., held off a final lap charge from Cole Wells to officially lead all 30 laps in winning Friday's United Late Model Racing Association feature at Monett Speedway. Crigler fended off Wells's last-corner surge and beat him to the line by 0.183 of a second for a $6,000 payoff and his third victory of the season, all of them coming in ULRA action at Monett.
Quotable: “Like I said the last time (I won at Monett), it’s kinda like putting on your favorite pair of tennis shoes, even if they’re old and wore out, they just feel right,” Crigler said. “We had a lot of success a long time ago (in a Longhorn) and it feels really good to be back in one. I’m saying there’s nothing wrong with them other (chassis brands), but this thing, for me, feels better. It steers, it’s (more free), it’s not real traction upped and hard to drive. It’s just a good car.”
Key notes: Sixth-starting Cole Wells took second from Sawyer Crigler on the seventh lap and kept pace with Scott Crigler before throwing a turn-three Hail Mary on the final lap, coming up just short at the checkers. ... Sawyer Crigler, son of the race winner, settled for third. ... Eighth-starting Justin Wells took fourth from Dustin Tiger on the 12th lap, relegating Tiger to fifth. ... Logan Martin gained four spots to place seventh aboard an Austin Vincent-owned Rocket. ... Vincent (lap 12), Chris Hawkins (lap 14) and Matt Menzie (lap 17) all pulled off as the race remained green. ... The lone yellow flag came on the seventh lap for debris down the backstretch. ... The main event lasted 11 minutes, with 12 starters completing 30 laps. ... Glen Powell scratched. … The first-year ULRA Series is scheduled to return on July 25 for another $3,000-to-win event.
On the move: Jace Parmley of Neosho, Mo., started 16th and finished ninth.
