What won the race: Working under Dale McDowell after the final restart, series points leader Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., led the final two laps to capture Friday's 40-lap Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series feature at Duck River Raceway Park. The frontrunners crossed the line in a near dead heat on the 38th lap before Owens edged away to win by 0.941 of a second over McDowell for an $8,000 victory, his third of the HTF season.
Quotable: "That's best I've run around the bottom of track in a while," Owens said. "We had some good dig down there and luckily Dale never got down low enough."
Key notes: Dale McDowell, who led laps 1-3, 5 and 9-38, fell shy of his third HTF victory of the season. ... Zack Mitchell and Joseph Joiner rose late to finish third and fourth. ... Second-running Sam Seawright's slide job on the 24th lap briefly put him ahead of McDowell, but he smacked the turn-four wall, allowing McDowell to go back by. ... Seawright led laps 4 and 6-8 and settled for fifth. ... Third-starting Ashton Winger was hampered by left-front body damage sustained early and sustained left-rear damage late before officials remedied the issue. He ended up sixth. ... Four cautions slowed the 40-lapper, all in the second half of the race. The first appeared on the 23rd lap when Wil Herrington slowed and headed pitside (Brayden Skinner pulled to the infield simultaneously). ... On the 26th lap, Cory Hedgecock slowed on the backstretch. ... A lap-29 yellow dropped when Grayson Brewer spun into backstretch's infield. ... A lap-37 caution fell for Jackson Hise's turn-two spin. ... The two-day Deep Fried 75 weekend culminates with Saturday’s $15,000-to-win finale.
