Derek Fisher celebrates his fifth win of the season at 191.
What won the race: Getting redemption after tangling the previous night, polesitter Derek Fisher of Olympia, Ky., held off Brandon Fouts to earn a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's $7,000 Silver Swift 40 at 191 Speedway. Fisher beat Fouts by 0.432 of a second for his third career Ultimate Heart of America Series victory and fifth feature win this season at 191.
Quotable: “It was a good race, I could tell that they were right there on me at the end, but I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t overcharge the corner and take myself out of the race,” Fisher said. “We was kinda taking it easy at the end, just glad that race went clean. We had a little misfortune last night, but that’s part of racing and I’m just glad that we were able to rebound tonight.”
Key notes: Fisher was collected in a crash Friday as he pursued Brandon Fouts, whose late contact with a lapped car triggered the incident. ... Fisher's other two Ultimate HofA victories came April 19 at 191 and June 20 at Mountain Motor Speedway in Isom, Ky. ... He also earned $5,000 in July 4's Battle of the Bluegrass Series visit to 191, adding to his July 12 and Aug. 9 local unsanctioned Super Late Model wins there. ... Fouts, who led all 40 laps in winning Friday's $6,500 opener, reclaimed second from Zach Hill on a lap-31 restart and trailed Fisher the final 10 laps, but never seriously challenged for the lead. The sixth-starting Hill, who pursued Fisher from laps 28-30, settled for third. ... Justin Rattliff finished fourth after retiring on the opening lap of Friday's opener. ... Reigning series champ Cyle Forgy and Cody Hunley each improved five positions, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. ... Fifth-running Shannon Thornsberry slowed and retired under green on the 34th lap. He was credited with 11th. ... The race was slowed by six cautions, the last on lap 33 when Garet McCloud spun from fifth, collecting Josh Dietz and Andrew Mayabb. Mayabb was eighth, the last driver on the lead lap. ... The feature lasted 33 minutes.
On the move: Jesse Puckett of Irvine, Ky., started 15th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Fisher’s Mike Swartz-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and sponsored by Swartz Construction and Tree Removal, Swartz Farms, Swartz Rentals, Wayne Bowen Racing Supplies and Graphic Impressions.
