Blair Nothdurft celebrates his $7,000 Deer Creek victory.
What won the race: Outside front-row starter Blair Nothdurft of Renner, S.D., dominated Saturday's 40-lap Malvern Bank East-West Series weekend finale at Deer Creek Speedway. Nothdurft was never challenged in winning his first career victory on either tour by 9.575 seconds over Chad Simpson, who regained the runner-up spot from Jake Timm in the closing laps.
Quotable: “We struggled here for years with World of Outlaws and Lucas Oil,” Nothdurft said. “I just drove the wheels off of it, gave it all I had. Pounded the cushion forever. … “I’m pretty proud to win. This is probably one of my biggest wins of my career. Thanks to everybody for coming out, thanks to Deer Creek for putting this on and hopefully we’ll come back next year.”
Key notes: Nothdurft's $7,000 payday is the richest of his career, eclipsing his previous high ($2,400) on Aug. 25, 2023, in Tri-State Series action at Fairmont (Minn.) Raceway. ... He notched his fourth overall feature victory this season, adding to three Tri-State wins, including Aug. 22 at Fairmont, worth $1,500. ... Polesitter Chad Simpson held second for the opening 13 laps before Jake Timm slipped by as they raced amid heavy lapped traffic. Timm held the runner-up spot until Simpson got back by him on the 37th lap. ... Timm, Friday's runner-up, settled for third after trading slide jobs with Dylan Thornton in the late going, leaving the sixth-starting Thornton in fourth. Thornton topped Friday's co-sanctioned opener. ... The green-to-checkered feature lasted slightly more than 10 minutes with 14 starters completing 40 laps. ... J.C. Wyman (lap 24) and Dave Eckrich (lap 19) were the race's only retirees.
On the move: Dustin Sorensen of Rochester, Minn., started 18th and finished sixth; tour rookie Joe Chisholm of Osage, Iowa, started 19th and finished seventh.
