Travis Fultz celebrates his first career Southern All Stars victory.
What won the race: Sneaking by race-long leader Forrest Trent on the 40th lap, fifth-starting Travis Fultz of Harrogate, Tenn., paced the final five circuits to win Sunday's 44-lap Buddy Rogers Memorial at Tazewell Speedway. Fultz beat Trent to the line by 0.863 of a second to collect $5,000, the biggest win of his career and first on the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series.
Key notes: Fultz marched steadily through the top five for his fourth overall Tazewell victory this season, adding to United Championship Racing Alliance wins on March 29 and Aug. 9, each worth $3,000. He also topped May 17's local 604 Crate Late Model field. ... Fultz became the sixth first-time series winner this season, joining Ryan Crane, Tucker Anderson, Rusty Ballenger, Jason Jameson and Michael Brown. ... Forrest Trent led the opening 39 laps from the pole before giving way to Fultz and settling for second. It was his second podium finish in as many nights after placing third Saturday at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn. ... Sixth-starting Josh Henry took third from Cruz Skinner on the 39th lap, relegating Skinner to fourth. ... The race honored late racer Ralph "Buddy" Rogers Sr. of Knoxville, Tenn., who died in 2008 after a bout with cancer. ... Sunday's feature, the 17th SAS visit to Tazewell, was completed without incident and lasted just shy of 10 minutes with eight starters completing 44 laps. ... Larry James scratched after hot laps.
