Nick Hoffman (inside) heads for a victory in his Needmore debut.
What won the race: Going under fellow front-row starter Tim McCreadie exiting turn four on the 17th lap, polesitter Nick Hoffman of Mooresville, N.C., cruised the rest of Friday's 40-lap World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series feature at Needmore Speedway for his fifth series triumph of the season. Hoffman, who briefly slipped to third on an early restart, earned $12,000 in the first of two Georgia weekend events while ending runner-up Bobby Pierce's four-race WoO winning streak. Pierce finished 1.354 seconds behind at the checkers.
Key notes: Hoffman notched his 11th career WoO victory. ... The winner's margin was 2.7 seconds at the lap-26 caution and Hoffman stretched it back to three seconds before runner-up Bobby Pierce drew closer late amid lapped traffic. ... The seventh-starting Pierce, who was aiming for his fifth straight series victory, got to second by the 24th lap and settled for the runner-up spot. ... Pierce's car needed a push to postrace ceremonies because it lost low gear. ... Third-place Brian Shirley notched his fifth straight top-five finish on the tour. ... Tim McCreadie led the first 16 laps from outside the front row and faded badly to 11th. ... Three cautions slowed the action, the first when Mark Whitener jumped the initial start. ... A lap-eight yellow appeared for a slowing Matthew Taylor. ... Kyle Bryant spun entering turn three for a lap-26 yellow. ... Dalton Cook scratched from the feature, which concluded at 9:56 p.m. ... Needmore, which hosted the national tour for the first time since 2011, drew a record-setting crowd. ... WoO's Georgia weekend concludes with Saturday's $15,000-to-win Billy Clanton Classic at Senoia Raceway.
On the move: Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, started 17th and finished eighth.
