What won the race: Nearly getting sideways on the frontstretch after taking command, fifth-starting Dave Hess Jr. of Watertown, Pa., powered past home-track favorite Dylan Cecce on the 15th lap Friday at Outlaw Speedway for a $10,000 victory. Hess, 3-for-3 in his career at Outlaw, took the checkers 2.098 seconds ahead of Dylan Cecce in the caution-plagued 40-lapper co-sanctioned by Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series and the Bernheisel Racing Components Fall Clash.
Quotable: "We've been to this place three times and come out of here with three wins. It's been really good to us," Hess said, later adding that "I could tell early I thought we had the best car, and then I got up on the cushion and a chunk of mud did some damage and I could tell it changed the air a little bit. But we were still good. We had a good battle with (Dylan Cecce) there and got together a couple of times, hard racing on that type of track, so I definitely didn't mean anything by it, and I think he's good with it."
Key notes: Dave Hess Jr. notched his seventh victory of the season paying at least $4,000-to-win. ... He has 16 career ULMS victories. ... Fourth-starting Dylan Cecce, a former street stock standout at Outlaw, led laps 8-14, lost ground on a mid-race restart before recovering to finish second. ... Mason Zeigler recovered from an early caution that sent him to the tail to finish sixth. ... Polesitter Ross Robinson never contended and retired with eight laps remaining. ... Nine cautions slowed the action, the first when the initial start was called back then again on the first lap when Zeigler went around in turn three while battling Brock Pinkerous (Mike Smith spun to avoid). ... On the fifth lap, Smith slowed inside turn three (Pinkerous took his smoking car to the pits during the caution). ... On the 16th lap, Trever Feathers pulled up lame on the frontstretch. ... Trevor Collins slowed with damage on the 18th lap after Bryan Bernheisel got out of shape exiting turn two, triggering a collision. ... Gregg Satterlee blew a right-rear tire for a lap-19 yellow. ... Second-running Matt Cochran, the Russ Clark Motorsports teammate to Cecce, had a flat right-rear tire on the 23rd lap (Ross Robinson headed to the pits during the caution and retired a few laps later). ... The eighth yellow appeared on the 33rd lap for Logan Zarin's departure. ... The ninth and final caution appeared for lap-34 spins for Bernheisel and Dave Stamm. ... The feature ended at 11:12 p.m. ... The event, which honors Arthur and Cynthia MacMillan, was the lone Super Late Model race this season at the Dundee, N.Y., oval. ... Amanda Robinson scratched from the main event lineup.
On the move: Former big-block modified driver Demetrios Drellos of Queensbury, N.Y.., started 17th and finished fifth.
