What won the race: Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., overtook polesitter and race-long pacesetter Cory Hedgecock on lap 15 and turned back a late challenge from Hudson O’Neal amid traffic to capture Thursday’s 50-lap FloRacing Night in America presented by Kubota-sanctioned Scott Bloomquist Memorial at Volunteer Speedway. The 41-year-old star beat O’Neal to the line by 0.565 of a second for a $20,018 top prize in the second annual event.
Quotable: “I was just following Dale there, kind of pacing him,” Davenport said. “Dale always runs lower than I like so I was in his dirty air a lot and I kept moving around and I found a decent line there in one and two where I could enter a little bit higher than Dale and come back under him, and that’s kind of what I did to Cory.”
Key notes: Davenport recorded his second win of 2025 and the sixth of his career on the FloRacing Night in America circuit. His previous triumph this season came May 7 at Spoon River Speedway in Banner, Ill. … The fourth-starting Davenport settled into third for the race’s first 10 laps before passing Dale McDowell for second. Five laps later he slid Hedgecock for the lead entering turn one and never looked back. … Eighth-starting Hudson O’Neal reached second on lap 20 and drew close to Davenport through lapped traffic with two laps remaining, but Davenport pulled away at the checkers. … Camaron Marlar, winner of last year’s inaugural Bloomquist Memorial, ran third for the final 23 laps. He nearly went three-wide for the lead with Davenport and O'Neal on lap 48. ... McDowell slipped to fourth at the finish. … Hedgecock pulled off the track on lap 26 while running third after cutting down a tire. … Bobby Pierce saw his FloRacing points lead shrink from 87 to 48 points over Davenport after a quiet 13th-place finish. ... The race’s four caution flags flew for Jensen Ford (flat left-front on lap 11), Brandon Overton (front end damage after hitting the turn-three wall on lap 19), Garrett Smith (slowed after a scrape with Kaede Loudy on lap 34) and Haiden Cowan (flat tire on lap 38). ... Kyle Strickler rolled his Austin Kirkpatrick-fielded car onto its roof in a turn-one tangle during the night's first consolation; he was OK. ... The event honored the late Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., who won 51 times at Bulls gap in his Hall of Fame career. ... The 50-lapper lasted 23 minutes, with 16 starters completing the distance.
On the move: Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., started 19th and finished seventh.
