Mason Zeigler enjoys victory lane at Selinsgrove Speedway.
What won the race: Overtaking race-long leader Hayes Mattern on the 28th lap, fourth-starting Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., led the rest of Saturday's 35-lap Late Model National Open at Selinsgrove Speedway for a $10,000 payday. Zeigler quickly built a three-second lead, then pulled away after a late-race restart to win by 1.468 seconds over 10th-starting Jeff Rine while Mattern settled for third.
Key notes: Zeigler notched his second victory of the season at Selinsgrove, adding to his Aug. 1 triumph in Jay's Automotive United Late Model Series action, worth $7,500. ... Zeigler also picked up $300 courtesy from Chrystal Nace and Fast Tees for setting fast time; the 18.246-second lap lowered the track record. ... Early top-five runner Rick Eckert's early flat tire dropped him to 15th on the 10th lap, but he rallied back to sixth. ... Andrew Yoder advanced six positions and placed ninth. ... The Late Model National Open was part of the track's Sand Hill Thrill event; it was originally on the first-year Fall Clash tour's schedule but ran unsanctioned. ... The 35-lap feature lasted 33 minutes and concluded at 9:47 p.m., with nine starters completing the distance. ... Ross Robinson and Nathan Long scratched.
On the move: Runner-up Jeff Rine of Danville, Pa., started 10th, salvaging the night after breaking a J-bar and shattering a driveshaft in time trials.
Winner's sponsors: Zeigler’s Rocket Chassis has a Clements Racing Engine and sponsorship from Greenlane.ai, Bx Logistics, RBS Auto & Trailer Sales: Sykesville, MD, RBS Truck Collision, Fox Shocks, VP Fuels, Ohiopyle Vacation Rentals, Mathison Gas: Uniontown, Pa.
